Leigh Fibers purchases approximately 300 million pounds of textile waste each year from a diverse and wide range of suppliers. Each waste stream adds to our massive inventory of raw materials. These materials are sorted and used to create Leigh-Branded fibers, customer specific fiber blends and Specialty Fibers.
IN STOCK FIBERS
Our in-stock inventory includes over 150 products of reprocessed textile waste and by-products; each one provides a unique set of properties. These products are used in a wide variety of end use applications.
NATURAL FIBERS
In addition to the more popular applications in clothing, home furnishings and automotive, natural fibers are also popular for use in industrial applications. This includes the development of natural fiber for use in reinforced composites.
SYNTHETIC & ARTIFICIAL FIBERS
Since the introduction of synthetic fiber into the waste stream in the 1930’s, Leigh Fibers has been a major player in the recycling of all types of synthetics and synthetic blends including nylon, viscose (Rayon), acrylic, polypropylene, acetate, aramids, polyester and polyethylene. We have, and will continue to be, highly active in converting and recycling all types of fibers. To accommodate the global growth of synthetic fiber producers, Leigh will continue to leverage our extensive network and reprocessing capabilities on behalf of our customers.
Leigh processes a significant amount of synthetic and artificial fibers today as it does natural fibers, resulting in more blends to suit more applications. Some of the most common synthetic, artificial and fiber blends we offer:
- nylon
- acrylic
- polypropylene
- acetate
- rayon viscose
- polyester
TEXTILE BY-PRODUCTS
While scrap and waste are primary elements in Leigh’s reprocessed products, we use many other sources. The following by-products of textile processing all have properties that add value in the right application.
- Thread waste
- Tow waste
- Filament
- Non-Wovens
- Cotton Sweeps
REPROCESSED FIBERS
As a cost-effective and “greener” alternative to virgin materials, re-processed fiber such as denim shoddy has become an important part of the fiber landscape. Through our customized blending and processing equipment we can produce a clean and homogenous material. These re-processed fibers serve as raw material for products in a variety of industries including automotive, bedding, home furnishings, filtration, caskets, and many more.
- Airlay products
- Garnetting products
- Blowing products
- Denim
LEIGH BRANDED FIBERS
Our experience in sourcing and reprocessing fire-retardant fiber, aramids and custom blends has given our customers a key competitive advantage by helping to streamline their supply chain and reduce manufacturing costs. Our innovation in processing of technical fiber has also led to the development of our own line of top-selling branded SafeLeigh® fire retardant fibers and QuietLeigh® fiber for acoustic insulation.
SAFELEIGH™
Applications: Operations involving needle punching, barrier fabrics and coarse yarn spinning. A family of proprietary fibers made from para- and meta-aramids, intrinsically fire-retardant fibers, and treated recycled cottons and synthetics.
QUIETLEIGH™
Applications: Acoustic insulation, primarily for the automotive industry. Engineered using Leigh Fiber’s proprietary fiber blends, QuietLeigh™ has become an automotive industry standard for acoustical padding. Many QuietLeigh™ products help our OEM partners meet the industry standards for flame retardancy and sound deadening.
TECHNICAL FIBERS
Leigh Fibers offers a range of technical and specialty fibers designed to be used in a variety of high-intensity applications. Leigh Technical has developed processes that convert para-aramids in both filament and fabric forms into usable fibers for carding/spinning, composite, pulp and wet laid applications. From providing components to meet fire retardancy standards to processing high strength fibers, Leigh can help you to meet the requirements of your industry.
